What is F-18 Bone PET-CT Scan?
An F-18 Bone PET-CT scan helps detect problems in your bones. It uses a safe radioactive tracer called F-18 Sodium Fluoride, which highlights bone activity.
This scan is very useful in spotting:
- Bone infections
- Fractures
- Bone cancer
- Cancer spread to bones (metastasis)
It gives clear, detailed images and helps your doctor plan the right treatment.

Here's how to prepare:
- No fasting is needed. You can eat as usual.
- Take your regular medicines unless told otherwise.

Step-by-Step Process
Check-in & consultation
- Our team will check your reports and explain the scan.
Changing & preparation
- You'll be asked to change into scan clothes and remove any metal objects.
Tracer injection
- A small needle (cannula) is placed in your vein. The tracer is injected through it.
- You will rest quietly for about an hour. This helps the tracer settle in your bones.
The scan
- You'll lie down on the scan table. The machine takes images of your bones.
- It's painless. Just stay still.
- If needed, a contrast dye may also be used.
After the scan
- Once done, our doctor will check the images. In some cases, you may be asked to wait for a follow-up scan.
- After that, you can change, eat, and take your medications.
Aftercare and Safety Tips
- Drink lots of water to help flush out the tracer.
- Avoid close contact with children and pregnant women for the rest of the day.
- You can go back to your usual routine unless advised otherwise.
- The tracer leaves your body naturally within 12 hours, mostly through urine.
A Few More Things
- The scan is safe. The amount of radiation is very low.
- If you have diabetes, kidney issues, or claustrophobia, inform our staff in advance.
- Our team will make sure you feel comfortable throughout the process.
