What is Ultrasonography?
Ultrasonography (or ultrasound) is a safe, non-invasive imaging method that uses sound waves to create real-time images of the inside of your body. Unlike X-rays, it doesn’t use radiation. Ultrasound is commonly used to view organs, soft tissues, and blood flow. It’s also helpful for guiding certain medical procedures accurately and safely.

Why are Ultrasound & Doppler Studies Done?

Heart & Blood Vessels

  • Assess blood flow and detect blockages (Doppler)

  • Evaluate heart function and valve disorders

Abdomen & Pelvis

  • Scan organs like liver, kidneys, gallbladder, and pancreas

  • Monitor pregnancy and check fetal growth

  • Detect cysts, tumours, or fluid build-up

Muscles & Joints

  • Diagnose tendon injuries or inflammation

  • Guide joint injections and fluid drainage

Thyroid & Endocrine System

  • Check thyroid nodules or enlargement

  • Guide biopsies (FNAC) for accurate sampling

Women’s Health

  • Monitor ovarian cysts, fibroids, or uterus health

  • Guide gynaecological procedures

Vascular Health

  • Detect varicose veins, DVT, or arterial blockages

What to Expect
Ultrasound is painless. A gel is applied, and a small device (transducer) is moved over the skin. You might be asked to hold your breath or change position briefly.

USG-Guided Procedures

  • Biopsies – For tissue diagnosis

  • Joint Injections – For pain relief

  • Drainage – Of cysts or abscesses

  • Vascular Access – Guiding catheter/stent placement

Aftercare & Preparation
You can usually return to normal activities immediately. Follow any prep instructions like fasting or drinking water, and inform your doctor if you're pregnant.
